What is the NPQE Pharmacists Exam?

NPQE Exam Introduction

The NPQE (National Pharmacist Qualifying Examination) is the official licensing exam conducted by the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP), Ministry of Public Health – Qatar, for pharmacists who wish to practice in the country. The exam is designed to assess a pharmacist's knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competence to ensure they meet the standards required to work in Qatar's healthcare system. The NPQE was previously known as the Qatar Prometric Pharmacist Exam.

Exam Format

It is conducted as a computer-based Prometric test, consisting mainly of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that cover major pharmacy subjects, including pharmacology, pharmaceutics, clinical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical calculations.

Licensing Requirement

Passing the NPQE Exam is a mandatory step for overseas-trained pharmacists to obtain their professional license and begin their career in Qatar.

B Pharm

Bachelor of Pharmacy

2 years of prior work experience in the relevant field is required.

Meet Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for licensure in Qatar, you must hold a recognized B.Pharm, Pharm.D, or M.Pharm degree and meet the required post-graduate work experience.

  • Candidates with a B.Pharm degree need a minimum of two years of experience
  • Those with a Pharm.D require at least one year
  • Pharmacists holding a B.Pharm plus M.Pharm qualification typically need two years of experience and may qualify for an exam exemption
  • You must also be a registered pharmacist in your home country

Schedule & Take the NPQE Exam

After PSV clearance, register for the NPQE (National Pharmacist Qualifying Examination).

Access Results & Obtain DHP License

After passing NPQE, apply for professional registration with the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP), Ministry of Public Health – Qatar.

  • Required documents: PSV report, NPQE result, Certificate of Good Standing
  • Medical clearance (tests for HIV, HCV, HBV, and Chest X-ray)
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Police clearance certificate

Once all requirements are satisfied and verified, the DHP issues your Official Pharmacist License, allowing you to practice in Qatar.
