February 4, people from all over the world come together to talk about cancer and stress how important it is to stop it, find it early, and treat it. The theme for 2025\u20132027, “United by Unique,” shows how important it is to put cancer patients first (World Cancer Day<\/a>). This is because having cancer is different for everyone.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
<\/span>Cancer is a hard disease to learn about<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
There are a group of diseases that are all called cancer. Cancer cells can grow and spread without being stopped. If you don’t treat them, they can get worse and become life-threatening. Cancer is broken down into more than 100 different types, each named after the part of the body where it starts.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
People can get cancer from their genes, the way they live, or their surroundings. Some risk factors, like smoking, diet, and being close to some chemicals, can be changed. But some, like age and family history, can’t (World Health Organization<\/a>).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It’s much more likely that a treatment will work if the problem is found early on. Being aware of symptoms and getting regular screenings are two important parts of early detection plans. There are tests that can find colorectal cancer and tests that can find early breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
